Our Mission
Weight Loss Diets South Africa was created to give South Africans practical, honest, and locally relevant information about diet, nutrition, and weight management. We're not doctors and we don't pretend to be — think of us as the health-conscious friend who's done the reading and shares it in plain language, with a cup of rooibos on hand and biltong in the cupboard.
Why We Started This Site
Most weight loss content online is written for a US or UK audience — different food brands, different currency, different grocery aisles. We wanted a resource that speaks to South African realities: load shedding messing with meal prep, ZAR grocery budgets, Woolworths and Checkers shelf staples, and the diet trends actually being talked about locally, from Banting to intermittent fasting to newer GLP-1 medications like Ozempic and semaglutide.
What You'll Find Here
- Diet plan breakdowns - Banting, low-carb, high-fibre, vegetarian, blood type, and kilojoule-controlled diets, explained with local food examples
- Nutrition basics - food groups, cholesterol, hydration, and kilojoule charts you can actually use at the shops
- Weight loss tips - exercise guidance, high-protein approaches, and medically supervised options
- Trending topics - clear, no-hype explainers on Ozempic, Mounjaro, and semaglutide-based treatments
- Free tools - our BMI calculator and waist-hip ratio calculator
Our Approach to Content
Every article on this Site is written to be supportive and practical, never preachy or shame-based. We aim to:
- Base claims on credible, cited sources rather than fads
- Always recommend consulting a qualified healthcare provider before starting a new diet, exercise programme, supplement, or medication
- Be upfront about advertising and any affiliate relationships - see our Disclaimer for full detail
- Keep content current, fixing outdated or broken information when we find it
Not Medical Advice
We're a health information and lifestyle resource, not a medical provider. Nothing on this Site should replace advice from your doctor, dietitian, or other qualified healthcare professional. If you have a medical condition or take chronic medication, please check with your healthcare provider before changing your diet or starting any weight loss programme.
How This Site Is Funded
Weight Loss Diets South Africa is supported by Google AdSense advertising and, where disclosed, affiliate links. This lets us keep all our content free for readers. Advertising never influences the accuracy of our information - see our Terms of Use for more.
